Welcome to your Bountiful Weekly Almond Market Update. For those I had the pleasure of seeing IRL @ PTNPA, I loved catching up!

Next week I'm going to be traveling throughout the valley for meetings. If you'd like to get on my calendar, let me know!

This week we're covering:

  • Rain, reservoirs, and snowpack, how'd we do?

🌦️ Post rain, how'd we do?

A break from the rain has been... dare I say it, nice. California's been raining, what feels like, every day for the last month!

In the last 30 days, California's received a total of 9.94 inches of rain, I've been hearing many compare the current year to 2017. So thought I'd use the Bountiful platform to see just how similar 2023 and 2017 are. See the screenshot I took this morning from the Bountiful platform below 👇.

As of today, January 18, 2023, total precipitation in the last 30 days is beating 2017, up + 89.33%

We all know, though that while rain is good it's water storage and snowpack that will drive surface water allocations and drought conditions this next season.

See 👇 you'll find comparisons for reservoirs and snowpack.

Reservoir conditions 2023 vs 2017,  a side-by-side comparison for you

And Snowpack 2023 vs 2017,  a side-by-side comparison for you

While we've received about 90% more rain in 2023 compared to 2017, overall 2023 reservoir levels are lagging behind 2017 levels. The springtime temperatures will determine how much of California's snowpack makes it into 2023/2024 allocations per available surface water supply.

You can track and benchmark the latest precipitation data for California or your chosen area of interest directly on the Bountiful platform.
